Steven Marcus
Steven Marcus is Director of Development for the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center. In this role, he leads a small, albeit talented team to secure the necessary funding for the Pro Bono Center to empower and strengthen our community.
Prior to joining the Pro Bono Center, Steven grew to oversee major gifts, planned giving, direct mail, online fundraising, and a capital campaign at So Others Might Eat. Previously, he worked with international development and conservation organizations focusing on major gifts and planned giving. Steven started his career in philanthropy with special events and prospect research at New York Law School, where he later decided to take classes at night.
Over the years, Steven has volunteered with several Washington, DC nonprofits, including So Others Might Eat, Casey Trees, and the American Civil Liberties Union of the District of Columbia. He also has mentored development colleagues through the National Capital Gift Planning Council, and more recently started coaching youth soccer.
Steven holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in both History and Philosophy from Rutgers University’s School of Arts and Sciences in New Brunswick, NJ. He also obtained his Juris Doctorate with honors from New York Law School. He is a retired member of the New Jersey Bar.
